Brian

Brian Pollard recently retired after thirty years as a successful Texas band director at the Middle School and High School levels. He has been engaged by Bands of America as a Contest Director, the University of North Texas as a Clinical Field Supervisor and has been in demand as an adjudicator, consultant, drill writer and clinician throughout the state.

Mr. Pollard spent his career in the Hurst-Euless-Bedford, Keller, Northeast, and Irving ISDs. As the head band director at both Fossil Ridge (Keller) and Winston Churchill (Northeast) High Schools the bands were consistent sweepstakes winners, and among the top finishers at UIL Area Marching, Bands of America Regionals and Super-Regionals as well as UIL State Marching Championships and Bands of America Grand Nationals contests. Pollard has taught and/or mentored dozens of current band directors across the state including staff members of the highly successful Claudia Taylor Johnson High School, Rouse High School, Tex Hill Middle School, and Lamar MS (Lewisville) band programs.

Philosophically, he has always known it was important to create specific vertical alignment in the programs in which he worked. He was present daily in beginner classes, middle school ensembles, and worked to establish a years-long curriculum focused on student success.

Though his greatest visibility came from writing drill and successful marching and concert programs, Brian spent his last 7 years in education building a struggling inner-city program into a consistent division one cluster. Working to revamp the entire curriculum and put good teachers in place his cluster in the Irving ISD transformed both feeder middle schools and the high school into respected programs with success in the All-Region and Solo and Ensemble arenas as well as on the Concert Stage and Football Field.

Mr. Pollard has a passion for student learning and believes there are victories to be found via student success on every campus. His consistent motto “you meet the students where they are and work to make them better,” has served as a guide-point for his career and is still his mission today.
